Yard signs are available for anyone wishing to take one for the upcoming Weber School District Bond that will be voted on in two weeks.
Last year’s School Improvement Plan was been submitted to Paula Plant. This report included the names of council members, the goals that were set, and how the Trust Lands money was spent. It consisted of four main goals:
- Reading Most of the Trust Lands money was spent in this category for three reading aides.
This goal’s success is measured by DIBELS scores for the primary grades.
- Math A math specialist works with grades 2-6. The goal was met for last year. However,
this year, the goal will be rewritten to meet Gateway Proficiency Standards.
- Technology A computer aide works with all grades each week for half hour increments per class.
- Art/Music Two aides provide each class each week with half hour instruction.
Funds left after paying for the above goals were used to send teachers to a PLC conference and to purchase STEM materials.
The H. Guy Child Website was updated two weeks ago.
Safety procedures at H. Guy Child elementary were addressed next. The main concerns were:
Every visitor needs to check in at the office and wear a visitor’s badge.
All doors should be locked (except the first grade door), and students should not open doors for adults.
Teachers need to be aware of the 4 types of emergency situations (Lock out, Lock down, Evacuation, Shelter) and how to respond.
There needs to be a procedure in place for reunification of students and parents if students are evacuated from the school.
The school cannot advocate having parents pick up students in the parking lot of South Jr. High after school due to liability concerns.
These safety concerns and procedures should be posted on the school’s web site.
