Dear Parents & Students,

It is that time of year to discuss the progress we are making on our School Land Trust goals.  The School Land Trust Programs, established by the legislature in 1999, distributes the “annual dividend” from the permanent State School Fund through school districts and charter school for all public schools in the state.  Elected parents, elected teachers and the school’s principal serve on the Community Councils.  The Councils in each school prepare a plan to address the school’s greatest academic need.  Local school boards approve the plans and funding is sent to each school with an approved plan before the school year begins.  The council for the 2015-2016 includes the following members:

The council will be meeting @ 3:45 on the following dates:  Jan. 15th & March 31st .

The goal for 2014-2015 was to improve reading comprehension & reading fluency, math skills and to provide professional development opportunities for all teachers.  We received $28,939 for the school and the funds were used to purchase the following:

·         An aide to work with students on reading skills.

·         An aide to work with students on math skills.

·         An aide to teach technology sessions.

·         Aides to teach FAME (Fine Arts Mini Experience) to allow teachers collaborative team time.

If you have any questions regarding the School Land Trust programs or you would like to serve on Community Council, please contact the school. Thanks so much for all you do to support your students at H. Guy Child Elementary.

                                                                                    Sincerely,

                                                                                    Karen Neiswender
