Neiswender’s News

Dear Parents and Students,

I want to thank everyone for  supporting our Fall Festival held on September 14th. It was such a fun evening for everyone despite the crazy weather. I appreciate the efforts of the H. Guy Child PTA, Faculty and Staff for their work on this event.

Thanks also for your support of our Great American Fundraiser. Special thanks to our office staff for organizing this fundraiser. Several business donated prizes for our top sellers. Lifetime donated a kayak and Goldenwest Credit Union donated items to for prizes. We appreciate their support of education.

All the funds raised will be used to support our STEM (Project Lead the Way) Program. Mrs. Udy and Mrs. Parker are the Teacher Facilitators for this program. They attended training in July and they have worked to train all of the teachers on this program. During the next few weeks, the teachers will begin teaching the first module (Structure and Function: Exploring Design) in their classrooms. This module will help students discover the design process and how engineers influence their lives. Working in groups the students will design, build and test a structure. We would also love to start the Robotics Program this fall. The Robotics Program is an after-school program and we need volunteers to help run the program. If you are interested in volunteering to work with students in our after-school Robotics Program, please contact the school.

As we prepare for conferences we will again be sending letters to promote our 95% attendance goal. Students are more likely to reach their academic potential when they attend school regularly. We will be sending letters home when a child’s attendance falls below the attendance goal. We understand students may become ill or sometimes other family circumstances arise, however, we want all of our students to be successful. We would also like to develop strategies and positive reinforcement for students achieving the 95% attendance goal. In order for success at school to happen, our students need to be at school. We appreciate all the support you give to our students.

Sincerely,

KAREN NEISWENDER

Principal

From Our PTA Board

Our next PTA MEETING will be held this Wednesday, October 7th at 8:45 am in the faculty room. Please join us as we discuss all of the upcoming events for this month.

We are still looking for a President-elect. There are many capable parents out there that would do a wonderful job leading the PTA next school year. If you are interested in this position, please contact Ronalee Heywood (801) 475-4376.

Don’t forget to keep track of and write down your VOLUNTEER HOURS on the pink sheets located outside of each classroom and throughout the school. These hours are very important for PTA to show how involved our parents are at our school. If you volunteer from home and can’t make it in, call the school office to have time recorded. We know your time is valuable, so make it count! We want to thank Karlie Lundell for being our Volunteer Coordinator this year and helping us find so many willing volunteers. To all who help in any way, THANK YOU!

Thank you to Terri Wolfley for all her time and effort with our school spirit shirts-they are fantastic! Also thank you to Sarajane Bingham for all of her time each month doing our fun PTA Birthday Table.

HALLOWEEN

Class activities will be held Thursday, October 29th at 2:00 pm beginning with the Halloween parade at 1:45 pm. Parties will follow as the parade comes to an end. Watch for more info to come home later this month. Please send a $3 party money donation to your child’s teacher to help fund our class parties. Donations help a lot to make class parties fun for our students.

It is not to late to register online.

PTA WEBSITE:

We need all parents that want to be listed in the school directory to list their info on our PTA website by October 6th. We want to get these printed and dispersed ASAP. Thanks!

Thanks for your continued support!  Our H. Guy Child Chargers are truly AMAZING and so are their parents!

Fall Festival

We had a very fun fall evening together Monday, September 14th at our annual H. Guy Child Fall Festival.  There was so much fun to be had, even though we had to move the fun inside.  We had the farm animals to pet, Pony rides, Bounce Houses and slide, fun carnival games, Face Painting, the Magician, all of our yummy food vendors and of course, our raffle baskets--everything was a hit!  And we didn't let the weather stop us either!

We want to send out a great big thank you to Ronalee Heywood and those who helped her in any way with our event.

We also send a THANK YOU to those that donated generously to the gift baskets for the raffle, to our amazing teachers for helping with the games, our principal and custodians, and all who came that night!  We could not have pulled it off without so many of you freely donating your time.  Thank you, thank you for helping to make our fall festival a very memorable family night!

(A big thanks to Kona Ice who donated 25% of their earnings to PTA!)

Book Fair

We wanto send out a big thank you to Sarah Morris for all of her time spent running our fall book fair this year.  It was a good one!

We also want to thank those who volunteered their time to work the register and help student's find the perfect book.  We were so thrilled to be able to donate a large number of books to students with our awesome "Book for Kids" program funded by a kind anonymous donation and many student contributions.  We enjoy having the book fair at our school and being able to give our school and teachers new resources for their classrooms.  Our next book fair will be held in January.

FYI: We are looking for a new volunteer to run our school book fair next year.  Please volunteer now so Sarah can train you as the Winter and Spring Book Fairs run differently.  Please contact the school or a member of the PTA Board if you are interested.

Thanks again ladies for all you help with our fall book fair!

Red Ribbon Week

We will be holding this year's Red Ribbon Week October 26th-29th.  Special thanks to Melissa Cottle and her committee for planning this fun week!  We would lovefor all our Chargers to participate with the fun themes for each day of the week:
